You would think that people might be excited to start at a new school. This may be true for a younger child, who has an easy time making friends. It is a bit harder in high school, the kids are a lot meaner, and like to pull pranks. I dreaded this day.
Ring! Ring! My hand fumbled around, while I was looking for my alarm. I slowly opened my eyes, and rubbed them hard. It was my first day of school at Hillard High. I was not too excited. Some people think I am really weird. I don't know why. Maybe it's because I dress crazily and am really outgoing. You may think that because I am so outgoing I would have an easy time making friends. Yeah right! Back in California, my sister had left me a great reputation. I was popular and had lots of friends. Not here, in NYC.
Slowly, I lifted my body from my bed and heard all of my fragile bones crack. After I had a shower, I put on my neon green top and neon pink pants with a bright purple scarf. I quickly straightened my short black hair. I though I looked awesome. This was my first time moving to a new school. Nervously, I ate breakfast and decided I probably wouldn't eat lunch today, so I didn't bother with making one. I grabbed the five dollar bill that sat on the counter, with a note from my mom that said "For Alice" .
The walk from my house to my school is only about five minutes. I didn't mind. Back home in California, the walk was much longer. It seemed in New York, everything was right beside each other. I hated it.
When I saw my new school I gasped. It was huge! I was sure to get lost! Faintly, I pushed open the double doors and everybody stared. I shyly walked in the office. It smelt like old candies and dust. The elderly lady gave me a timetable and a map. When I walked out of the office, I heard everyone whispering things like,"Is THAT the new girl. Oh, well she looks so weird.", and stuff like that.
The office lady had given me a sticky note that said "Locker # 9999. Combination # 4, 9, 49.", well at least it would be easy to remember. I saw someone who looked like a teacher, and asked him which way to locker number 9999. He pointed me in the right direction. He introduced himself as Mr. Maluty. After he walked away I saw that I had him second thing this morning.
About 10 minutes later I finally found my locker, and it took 5 tries to open it. Since I came half way through the year in March, I didn't get a full size locker, I got a half sized one. I threw all my stuff in, just when the bell rang. My stomach turned nervously. I looked at my timetable, I had Mrs. Dahtered as my homeroom teacher. She was in room 375. I tried to follow my map. It didn't work. I tried to ask people to help me, but they just laughed and walked away.
Twenty- five minutes later I found room 375 and ran in. The hole class stared at me. Lucky for my the teacher looked nice. "And you must be our new student, Alice Benner! I assume you were just lost?", I nodded my head. Even though she was a very nice teacher, she still made me stand in front of the class and introduce myself. I was so embarrassed.
After the bell rang I asked her how to get to my next class. She told me it was right down the hall. I found it no problem. Once again Mr. Maluty made me stand in front of the class and introduce myself. "I'm Alice Benner. I moved here from Malibu, California. My favourite colour is purple. I have 2 little brothers and older sister.", It seemed like I said this a lot.
When lunch time came, my stomach did flip-flops. I hadn't made any friends yet! If I just wandered around the school, I would look like a friendless loser! I used the five dollars from my mom to buy myself a drink and a sandwich from the cafeteria. I looked around awkwardly, looking for somewhere to sit. Of course people stared at me, even the lunch monitors.
I ended up sitting at my locker. A group of "popular" people walked by and snickered. I was so mortified that I didn't notice someone sit down beside me. "Don't let them bother you. Last year when I was new, they didn't leave me alone! By the way, I'm Zeke. I saw you sitting her and you look nice enough to be my friend.", Zeke stuck out his hand for me to shake. I went to shake his hand, but he grabbed my hand and kissed it instead. We both laughed. "Hey, I'm Alice Benner. Yeah, I just moved here from Malibu. So far I hate New York. It's rainy, cold and everyone is always on the go." He had an understanding look on his face. "One years ago, I moved here from southern Nevada. Rhyolite, to be more specific.". Wow! He was from a even hotter, sunny place. I just nodded. We understood each other.
Turns out that Zeke and I had the last class history together. He walked me to my third class after lunch. He was so sweet. I said good-bye to him. When I walked into the class room I had a huge smile on my face.
The class went by in a blur. I had to introduce myself again. The math teacher was nice so that ought to make the class a litle bit better. When the bell rang I was supposed to meet Zeke at his locker, just down the hallway. We walked to our next class together, art. Turns out we are both art geeks.
We took our seats beside each other and waited for the teacher. Right before the teacher walked in, another girl blew past her. She smiled and said, "Can I sit here?", I nodded. She introduced her self as Kaytie, but all her friends call her Boo, because she loves scary things. Turns out that Zeke already knew Kaytie. They were friends, and had been since kindergarten. We spent most of that class talking. We got caught at least 5 times. It was fun!
Kaytie, Zeke and I planned to go to the local coffee shop after school. Katie and Zeke wanted to show me some of their favourite places in NYC. Since I was in grade 11, my parents didn't care where I went. Even with my younger siblings, they were pretty easy going.
In art, we started on a painting project. I wanted to paint the California sunset. My parents had promised me that we would go their every summer. When we go there this summer, I want to take Zeke and Kaytie. Since Zeke was from southern Nevada, he was used to the sun. Kaytie has never left New York. It would be a big change for her!
After school, I texted my parents telling them what we were doing. The walk down to the coffee shop was so nice! The weather was perfect weather for walking. Zeke showed me some of the stores we passed. There were lots of places to shop! Finally, we got there. The coffee shop was so cute! It had so many different flavours of ice cream! We all got Lattes.
When I got home, dinner was almost ready. I sat down at the table at the exact moment my parents said, "How was your first day Alice? Did you make any friends?", I had so much to tell them! I was going to like New York City! Alice, Zeke and Kaytie! Best friends forever!
I found it a little boring and not very smooth. for example when you used the sentance...It was fun.... But other than that it was okay. 2.5 out of 5
